The Dallas County Health Department will be the meeting place where information will be shared about a prevalent disease in the state of Iowa.
Community Health Administrator Abigail Coder explains that the organization will be holding a public meeting next Wednesday, March 6th to cover the health risks with cancer. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that cancer is the second leading cause of death in Iowa behind heart-related diseases, and that a similar meeting is happening in the state’s 99 counties. Coder describes that the meeting is a collaboration between The University of Iowa College of Public Health, the Iowa Cancer Consortium, and the Iowa Cancer Registry. She elaborates what the audience will learn about during the meeting.
“They’ll come and they’ll present some of the Dallas County-specific data that they’ve analyzed. So we’ll have a better understanding of maybe what types of cancers are more prevalent here, what risk factors that we need to watch out for, and then it will also allow folks in the community to ask questions they might have about cancer, because there’s so much misinformation out there.”
Coder states that the meeting will only be available virtually from 1-2pm however, there is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Click here to sign up and to learn more about the event.
