The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday.
County Auditor Todd Halbur spoke in an open forum about putting together what he calls an “I Voted” Sticker Contest. He told the board that the contest will see students in grades sixth through eighth design a concept for the “I Voted” sticker that can potentially be the one that represents the actual symbol for the state of Iowa in the next election. Halbur said that more information will be shared at a later date, but believed that it would be beneficial for middle-aged kids as they will be future voters in the years to come.
The board also had a roads workshop with the City of Van Meter, where Veenstra and Kimm Incorporated’s Civil Engineer Randy Johnson outlined that the company Microsoft is building a data center within the next five to 10 years. He mentioned that several roads in town would be affected by construction including some county roads, specifically County Road F90, parts of 365th Street, portions of Tabor Road, as well as the Raccoon River Bridge and the Overflow Bridge. Johnson noted that a 28E agreement will need to be signed before work begins, but the proposed timeline is to receive bid letting on April 3rd with potential city approvals and awarding contracts by April 14th. No action was taken following the workshop.
Next, the board set a public hearing for the five year road construction program for March 11th at 9:30am for the Secondary Roads Department, as well as approving County Road P48 project plans, specifications, and authorizing bid letting as the agreement is between Dallas, Guthrie, Adair, and Madison counties; a farm lease for David Mickelson of Bouton, Iowa, for 68.82 acres that would start on March 1st and go through December 31st, 2025, and a resolution to appoint Brett Boston to be a Van Meter Township Trustee. The meeting ended in a closed session to discuss purchase of a particular real estate.
