The annual Greene County Cattlemen Association Banquet and Trophy Auction was one for the record books.
President Justin Robbins says their fundraiser this past Saturday brought in a record $35,000 from the auction with more pledges coming in the next couple of weeks. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the most impressive parts was seeing new people attend with about 200 people at the event. He talks about a special moment that brought everyone together was stopping in the middle of the auction to watch live Greene County High School senior Brent Dennhardt wrestle in the state championship match, where he won.
“Everybody stopped what they were doing to watch what was going on. The community support, I think people take for granted sometimes how good our community really is. I’ll tell you what, it was fun to watch, it was exciting, and it just shows the involvement between the older folks in the community and still being invested in the youth. It’s great!”
Robbins says M&W Ag Supply won its third straight traveling trophy for donating the most money to the auction. He is also grateful for the entire Greene County Cattlemen Association Board and the work everyone does.
“I would really like to thank my board. I have got just a board that they work their tails off, they’re just an amazing group of guys, and again their wives go above and beyond, and do a lot of extra work as well, and they allow their spouses to really be able to get out and help the community. And really at the end of the day that’s what it should be about is how do we help the community.”
Robbins adds that the organization is looking forward to increasing the amount of scholarship money for graduating seniors, along with continuing their support for the local food pantry at the Greene County Action Resource Center, and Greene County Adopt-A-Family, among other worthy causes and projects across the county.
