February is known as Children’s Dental Health Month, and a local dentist in Perry outlines how tooth decay can impact children’s teeth.

According to Perry Family Dentistry Dental Hygienist Jody Johnston, parents/guardians will want to make sure that their children are properly brushing their teeth as she points out that the dangers can lead to a lifetime of cavity issues. Johnston recommends that younger individuals should be brushing twice a day with nighttime being the most important as the bacteria builds up from food and talking throughout the day, as well as flossing at least once a day too.

She details that children should limit the amount of high sugar and high carbohydrate foods and drinks as that will rotten teeth at a higher rate than normal. Johnston indicates that all these tools are good for healthier teeth, but that parents/guardians should schedule their children for regular cleanings and check-ups with a local dentist every six months.
