The AC/GC Chargers girls basketball team took care of business against the Earlham Cardinals Tuesday night.

The Chargers outscored the Cardinals 16-7 in the first quarter, and put on a clinic in the second quarter to go into the halftime break up 40-16. Both teams didn’t score as much in the third, and AC/GC remained in the lead 49-28. In the final quarter, the Chargers were outscored 12-11, but it wasn’t enough for the Cardinals to close the gap, and the game was won 60-40 for AC/GC.

The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the Game went to a few players, with Meranda Gruber coming off the bench and scoring 10 points when the Chargers were having some trouble getting in to their post players for scoring in the first half. In the second half the team reworked some offensive plays, and Camdyn Richter was able to put up several shots, ending the night with 19 points and several rebounds, especially on the offensive side. The third player considered for the award is Stella Largent, who was a ball hawk the entire night, picking off or tipping several passes, especially right in front of the scorers table during the first half.

The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game had a few contenders as well, with both Largent and Gruber getting steals on the defensive side of the court, and driving across to get a bucket. The play that ultimately took the spot was Richter’s command of the offensive board in the second, especially in the instance where she collected three in a row, finally taking the shot herself after the final rebound and making the basket.

The Chargers advance to 21-1 on the season, and play again Friday night, hosting the Central Decatur Cardinals.
