An organization in Perry is inviting people out today to share the history of the area.
The Perry Iowa Historical Society is holding a collection event at the Carnegie Library Museum this afternoon from 1-4pm. Director Larry Vodenik outlines that the premise is for people to donate any unwanted items from their home, without throwing them away. He explains that the organization will accept photographs, documents, or larger furniture items. Even if people don’t have anything to drop off, Vodenik still encourages them to stop by.
“I’ve had some people who are new to Perry, who really don’t have any items, but they’re interested in history and they want to learn more about Perry. So you can come down and if they would just like to be apart of our organization or see what we’re about, or just talk to us, that’s a good time to come down.”
Vodenik illustrates that the Perry Iowa Historical Society formed in April of last year and through the collection events, he’s already accumulated approximately 3,000 photos of Perry as well as memorabilia from old businesses in town like the Old Fellows Lodge or Stoners Meat Market.
