A musical duo that features a Jefferson resident recently won an award.
According to the International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA), the Weary Ramblers won the Excellence in Acoustic Music for the Best Group/Duo category. The Weary Ramblers are comprised of singer/songwriter Chad Elliott from Jefferson on guitar and Kathryn Severing-Fox on fiddle. They released the self-titled album, “Weary Ramblers” last fall and have been touring ever since. Both musicians talk about their style of music, as Elliott starts out describing their sound.
“It’s kind of a cross-over between a lot of different genres because we have a lot of backgrounds between the two of us. So we kind of fit under the umbrella of Americana music because it has the folk, the roots, the blues a little bit, jazz, everything really.”
Severing-Fox echoes Elliott’s comment and adds her own impression.
“I think some of it too is that we don’t really aim to write in certain styles when we go to write, which maybe seems strange. But I think it’s just we’re responding to the way that the day is flowing, and how we’re feeling, and a lot of time(s) the lyrics can just kind of guide the music part too, or vice versa.”
According to the IAMA, the Weary Ramblers are in the running for the overall grand prize that will be announced on February 18th. Homefire Booking Manager for Chad Elliott, wife Alyssa tells Raccoon Valley Radio this is the first time either Chad or Severing-Fox has garnered an award from the IAMA. Additionally, Chad is also going to be inducted into the Iowa Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame later this year. Click here to see the full list of recipients.
