With winter weather moving in today and this weekend, it’s important for roads to be made safe.
Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says that as always, the Secondary Roads Department will clear and de-ice roads as needed during winter weather events. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that residents and travelers taking roads in Guthrie County won’t see them using a liquid solution this year though.
“This year we did not do the calcium liquid solution. Our tanks are getting quite aged, and several of the pumps were failing multiple times throughout last year. So this year we did something different. We went with a one-to-one, one bucket of sand, one bucket of salt. So it’s a heavier concentration of salt, and that’s what we’ve been utilizing this year. It’s proven successful so far.”
Sebern mentions that they have a good stockpile of both salt and sand. He adds that should the need for more salt arise, the department has a reliable way to get salt at a price that’s economical for the county.
