A Wednesday morning crash slows traffic down along US Highway 30 near Grand Junction.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio an Iowa Department of Transportation plow truck was heading south on Iowa Highway 144 and after stopping at the posted stop sign at the intersection with Highway 30, the driver proceeded to turn into the eastbound lanes of Highway 30. Williams says the plow truck driver didn’t see an eastbound semi-tractor tanker and struck the rear axle of the tanker. He points out the collision damaged some of the traffic control equipment that is owned by Union Pacific Railroad, as the vehicles ended up off the roadway toward the south ditch. Both lanes of traffic were open on Highway 30, but speed was reduced.
Williams states that there were no injuries from the crash, with the DOT plow truck sustaining minor damage and the semi tanker is a total loss. No names are released at this time, but Williams adds charges are pending completion of the investigation. Grand Junction Rescue, UP staff and Greene County Ambulance assisted at the scene. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
