The AC/GC Chargers advanced their win columns in their home games against the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders Thursday night.

The girls game started off close, with the Chargers trailing 9-6 at the end of the first, but able to make a comeback in the second to go up 24-18 into the halftime break. In the third quarter, both teams scored low again, finishing with the Chargers up 31-24. The fourth quarter saw big scores once again from both teams, and AC/GC put away the win with a final score of 48-40.

The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the game went to Stella Largent, who was able to get open under the basket for some needed points, as well as pull down several rebounds. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game came down to three pointers, with a crazy shot by Becca Littler taking the top spot, after bouncing wildly straight up, before miraculously finding its way back down and through the hoop.

The boys game started off much the same as the girls did, with AC/GC down 18-16 at the end of the first quarter. Some big three point shots in the second boosted the Chargers though, and they went up 30-26 going into the break. Another big quarter by the teams saw the score at 43-38 in favor of AC/GC at the end of the third quarter, and in the fourth quarter, both teams once again scored in the double digits, but the Chargers stayed on top to finish with the 60-56 victory.

The Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the game was split by halves, with Joe Crawford taking the first half, and Jathan South taking the second. Crawford hit five three pointers, three of which were back-to-back-to-back towards the end of the second quarter to give the Chargers the lead, with another one as a buzzer beater to cement the lead. South was able to work over the Crusaders modified defense, which moved to prioritize defending Crawford, and South was able to make several shots, as well as draw fouls to head to the charity stripe. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game came at the end of the first quarter, where Noah Kading threw up a three from the top of the key, and miraculously made it through a no-call foul where the Crusaders defender was practically laying on top of him.

The Chargers return to action tonight on the road, as they head to Pleasantville to take on the Trojans. The Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network will broadcast the games live on the KKRF2 online live stream.
