A new event is coming to the Adair County Fair this year.

Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that they have started handing out materials for the quilt square creation challenge. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio more about the event.

“Along with our bucket of junk, which is a welding project that we have here in Adair County, we have started the quilt square creation challenge. And this is kind of the same idea, but you’re given a bag of material and you are to design a finished quilt square out of that using the material that’s in the bag. It’d be a great project for any level sewer, find a mentor, grandparent, a parent, give you something to do in these cold winter months to start thinking about your static projects for fair.”

Savage mentions that like many other static projects, the quilt squares will be judged before the fair, then placed on display for everyone to see. She adds that the plan with these quilt squares is to put them all together to make a quilt after the 2025 Adair County Fair, and then place it in the silent auction for the 2026 fair.
