The Iowa High School Girls Wrestling Tournament begins today in Coralville.  Perry has four representatives.  Mercedes Ponce will making her third straight appearance.  Julie Maylum is back for another year.  Cate and Ayden Erickson also qualified.

Ponce went 1-2 last year in Coralville and is hopeful for a better result.  “My end goal is definitely to place at State.”

Maylum, who went 2-2 last year, lost her first match and was sent to the consolation bracket.  This time around she has some lofty expectations.  “I’m looking for the big one.  I wanna be on top of that podium.”

Ponce wrestles at 105, Cate Erickson 115, Ayden Erickson 125, and Maylum 155.

The Perry girls compete in the evening session beginning at 4:30P tonight.
