A fundraiser is currently underway that has become a favorite for one Greene County youth organization.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says the 4-H Young Leaders are selling the popular chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day. People can purchase a half dozen for $10 or one dozen for $20. The food is then ready to be picked up on February 13th from 5-7:30pm and February 14th from 9am-noon at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson.

Hardaway talks about everything the Young Leaders use the proceeds from this fundraiser on during every Greene County Fair in July.

“So the Young Leaders actually pay for part of the candidate photographer at the Greene County Fair, they pay I think 75 percent of that. They also keep the livestock office up and running at the fairgrounds, so any supplies they need from there. But then they also do different activities at the Greene County Fair with youth. They did the bags competition, they’ve done mud tug-of-war, all kinds of activities like that. So it funds all of those projects.”

Hardaway notes that the Young Leaders purchase the strawberries from Jefferson Fareway and hand-dip them the day of February 13th and will put them in cold storage for those who pick them up on February 14th. Orders must be submitted by February 6th to any Young Leader or to the Greene County Extension Office.
