Now that a few weeks of the 2025 Legislative Session have passed, one Representative speaks on how they went.

Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen mentions that the first few weeks are a little slow when session begins, as both chambers are trying to work out what important matters will be for the session. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Governor Kim Reynolds’s Condition of the State speech is a big part of what helps them look at important topics for the rest of session.

“The Condition of the State is very important, because the governor kind of lays out what her priorities are. One of the big things she hit on was something that’s affecting every state, and that’s healthcare and healthcare priorities. She laid out a few things in that surrounding healthcare. She had said that the well-being of working families in rural communities depends on access to high quality healthcare and, I couldn’t agree more.”

Sorensen mentions that other topics that were discussed include restricting cell phone usage by students during the school day and property taxes.
