The Greene County and Paton-Churdan High Schools each saw success with several students qualifying for state speech.
Three speech entries from Greene County and one Paton-Churdan entry earned a Division-I rating this past Saturday at the Iowa High School Speech Association District Large Group Contest, and will move onto state. According to the Greene County Speech Team, the three categories that are going to state include Choral Reading, Group Improv, and Reader’s Theatre. Of those that qualified, four students will be in two categories and those are Lucy VanderLinden and Savannah Lansman in Choral Reading and Group Improv, along with Randa Linberg and Ava Binkley with Group Improv and Reader’s Theatre.

According to P-C Speech Coach Amanda Tasler, their one entry was Choral Reading that was an original piece written by Nicole Friess-Schilling about a teen with a phone addiction. She said the eight students that are in Choral Reading also earned a Division I-rating and have advanced to state.
According to IHSSA, the large group speech contest will be on February 8th in Waukee.
