The school districts in Guthrie County will be sending students to compete in the District Large Group Speech contest at Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School tomorrow.
AC/GC Large Group Speech Coach Kelsey Dinkla says that it is exciting to be hosting the district competition for the second year in a row. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the day will look like from the back end, as she and several volunteers work to have the day go smoothly.
“We’ll have our judges meeting before the day gets started and then centers will begin at eight o’clock, and most centers will be wrapped up between 4pm and 5pm. So it’s definitely a full day experience and we’ve got a lot of great talent coming our way. We kind of have the northern quadrant of Southwestern Iowa, so we have a couple metro schools coming our way and then actually several schools that are in our conference.”
Dinkla mentions that AC/GC has 56 students that will be competing, and has 14 groups competing in seven events. For West Central Valley, Speech Coach Nancy Bauch shares that they will be sending two groups of students for group improv. Panorama Speech Coach Deb Wooldridge mentions that they will have three groups making the short drive over to Guthrie Center to compete in musical theater, readers’ theater and choral reading.
