US Congressman Zach Nunn
There are new reports of some federal government departments providing assistance to those individuals and families impacted by the wildfires in California.
However, Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Zach Nunn weighs in on his take about the situation happening in the Los Angeles area of California.
“We need to be able to help those folks on the ground but we also need to hold mayors, like the mayor of LA (Karen Bass), who chronically underfunded fire departments for training and that’s been said as much from the fire chiefs in the area. We need to hold governors, like (California) Governor (Gavin) Newsom accountable. Who has seen this level of mismanagement of the reservoirs, of forests accountable so that we don’t continue to pay hundreds of billions in US taxpayer dollars into a broken system that will only be repeated two years from now.”
Nunn believes that there is some responsibility for the state and federal levels of government to provide immediate resources to help fight the fires, preserve life and take care of the people impacted in the aftermath.
