Greene County’s high school girls’ basketball head coach Tori Ogden won’t soon forget Monday night in Madrid. The Rams lost the game 58-35, but the most memorable part of the evening was the marriage proposal the coach accepted from Mickenzie Nelson. After talking to Raccoon Valley Radio on the postgame show, the coach was greeted in front of the scorer’s table by Nelson, who immediately took a knee, proposed, had it accepted, put a ring on her finger, followed by a long embrace. Then, the entire Ram team mobbed their coach with a group hug and shouts of glee! The proposal after a game was the first witnessed by longtime radio announcer Doug Rieder, along with his color commentator Jeff Lamoureux. The duo was still on the air, so listeners were treated to a play-by-play of a different kind than normally is heard on Raccoon Valley Radio.

As far as the game is concerned, the Tigers led from start to finish, leading 30-15 at the half. The Tigers doubled their scoring average of 29 points a game while the Rams were 15 over their usual point total. Sophomores Sara Morlan with 13 points and Makenna Ebersole with 11 led the Rams in scoring. Madrid’s Laura Eagleton tripled her game average with 27 points. The Tigers made seven goals from three-point range to four three’s for teh Rams.

The girls don’t play again until this Friday in Monroe vs. Class 3A number 10 PCM. That will be a girls’ boy doubleheader on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
