A former Grand Junction resident was arrested for allegedly having sex with a minor.
According to court documents, an investigation began with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on October 25th, when law enforcement was notified by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services that had done an interview with a mother from Grand Junction who had given birth to a baby. During the investigation, it was discovered that the sexual encounter had happened when the mother was 15 years old and the suspect, Leeroy Steadman, was 22 years old with the age difference being over six years. The mother claimed Steadman was her only sexual partner and that he was the father.
Court documents show that Steadman had since moved to Terrell, North Carolina and investigators were working with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office to execute a search warrant on November 15th to collect a DNA sample from Steadman. DNA samples were also collected from the mother and the baby on November 21st, with all samples submitted to the Criminalistics Laboratory for testing. Court documents show that on December 17th, the results of the test concluded that Steadman was 99.9 percent a DNA match to the mother and the baby.
An arrest warrant was issued on December 23rd charging Steadman with a Class C Felony for his first offense for third degree sexual abuse child victim-persons four or more years older. Steadman was booked into the Greene County Jail this past Thursday, January 16th. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
