The Adel Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to a popular winter-time activity.
Recreation Supervisor Ramona Dillinger says the ice skating rink is open and people of all ages are welcome to enjoy time on the ice, which is located on 10th and Main Streets, right next to Raccoon Valley Bank. She explains that the rink will remain open as long as the weather cooperates.
“We need to have temperatures stay cold to keep the water frozen, but then as we start to gain more daylight, that becomes more challenging because the sun will heat and melt the surface, and then it just freezes overnight. It’s just weather dependent.”
Dillinger adds that community ice skates are available to the public for free in a nearby storage shed, but will only be accessible from sunrise to sunset. She mentions that the skating rink is open 24/7, as the Parks and Rec Department installed lights underneath the ice for visibility when it’s dark out.
