The 2025 Legislative Session in Iowa has begun, and there are some topics that legislators will be taking a look at.

House District 23 Representative Ray Sorensen (R-Greenfield) says that even before the session began, the Republican Caucus was discussing important topics, including economic relief in the form of tax cuts, addressing illegal immigration, and exploring policies that further efforts to keep children safe from things like drugs, and violence at schools. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio another topic that he’s heard fellow Republicans discuss.

“Another thing that we’ll be working on, every child in Iowa deserves an opportunity for a bright future. And I know we’ll be ensuring Iowa laws are protecting our youth and setting them up for a successful life, and we need to support kids that are born into tough situations. This can include taking a comprehensive look at improving our foster care system and lowering the cost of adoption to ensure high costs don’t prevent a child from (going to) a loving home.”

Sorensen mentions that there are also companion bills in the House and Senate, separate legislation in both chambers that are on the exact same topic, regarding reinstating the whole grade sharing/consolidation incentives that some schools were asking for, and that he doesn’t foresee any issues with getting those to pass.
