The AC/GC Chargers were on the road for a pair of wins at Wells Fargo Arena Tuesday night.

The teams took down the Woodward-Granger Hawks in a couple of scrappy games. The Chargers girls team started things off with a 14-7 lead at the end of the first, and only increased the margin in the second quarter, going into halftime with a 32-17 lead. The third quarter saw similar scoring from both teams, and AC/GC retained a 42-28 lead, and in the fourth quarter the Chargers outscored the Hawks, and won the game 52-35.

With the teams playing on the Iowa Wolves hardwood, the professional three point line was marked for all to see, and Shay Lemke decided to knock one down during a stretch of three pointers in the first quarter, which was considered for the Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game, and helped earn Lemke the Crafty’s Coffee Player of the Game. Lemke scored 12 points on the night, and helped her team take the victory by finding open players to make some shots.

The Chargers boys team decided to keep everyone on their toes in the first half, trailing 17-14 after the first quarter, but coming back to go into the halftime break up 29-26. The Chargers came back and outscored the Hawks once again in the third quarter, taking a 46-38 lead into the fourth. Things got dicey once again in the final quarter, with everything coming down to the wire in the final seconds. AC/GC was up 66-64, but a last second foul with .2 seconds left on the clock put Jathan South on the line, and he put made both free throws to get the Chargers the 68-64 victory.

Noah Kading was named the Crafty’s Coffee Player of the Game, with a hand in most every play. He was able to help keep the team from falling too far behind, and help break a few scoring droughts for them as well. The Dub P Apparel Elite Fit Play of the Game also had Kading’s hand in it, as he drove into the lane, fell forward and was fouled on the shot, and made a circus shot that first bounced on the front of the rim, then swirled around before falling and being counted. The Chargers next game is on Friday, when they head to Earlham for a game against the Cardinals.
