The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Greene County Development Corporation gave an update. Multicultural Family Resource Director Sara Huddleston reported that she was asked to help with local law enforcement with a domestic abuse incident where she provided translation and transportation to a medical facility. She mentioned that she is continuing to work with employers and individuals to apply for jobs. GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said that a new business will be located in the East Business Park, along Highway 30, as three lots were closed for a business incubator to come in. 

Jeff Lamoureux, who serves on the Greene County Veterans Commission gave an update on the process to hire a new County Veterans Affairs Director. He reported that their group met with the regional director for additional guidance and that the Calhoun County Veterans Affairs Director was also willing to be part of the interviews. He added that there were three applications that have been received for the part-time position. 

Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson also gave a report. He told the Board that the city is looking to establish an animal appeals board, where the public can appeal a decision about animal complaints, mostly dog bites, to try and keep their dog. This would include a certain list of criteria and guidelines that would need to be met. He also mentioned that the city met with ISU Extension to go over the close to 400 respondents to the Rural Housing Readiness Study. 

The Board also agreed with Sheriff Jack Williams to work with the County Attorney’s Office to draft an ordinance about public nudity. Williams pointed out an area of the county where that has become a prevalent problem. 

Next, the Board heard an update with the Iowa Drainage District Association. Representative John Tolbert told the Board about one bill that is being proposed in the Iowa Legislature this session is about how the Iowa Department of Transportation would be assessed with drainage district projects.

The Board then approved the County Treasurer’s semi-annual and quarterly investment reports as presented, the County Auditor’s quarterly passport report as presented, and the construction evaluation resolution for the construction of confinement feeding operations. The meeting ended in closed sessions for the annual evaluations of County Engineer Wade Weiss and Greene County Ambulance Director Michelle Madsen.
