District 24 Senator Jesse Green
With the 2025 Iowa Legislative Session underway, one state senator shares his thoughts on particular bills that could come up.
District 24 Senator Jesse Green (R-Boone) says one of the main topics for the Senate Republican caucus will be about property tax reductions for Iowans, as that was the major theme he heard while on the campaign trail in 2024. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the key areas to examine in order to bring down property taxes for people is through the education budget.
“Because in my mind, if we’re going to deliver on instant property tax relief for the taxpayer, I don’t see how you can have that conversation without talking about buying down some of that burden that’s on the education side of the conversation. I mean half of your property tax bill goes to education. And so I just don’t see how we can talk about substantial relief unless we talk about that area.”
Green points out another bill that he is running this session is about underground carbon dioxide pipelines that was drafted by Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn.
“It clarifies how the IUC (Iowa Utilities Commission) Board would deal with future carbon pipelines and how they condemn agricultural land in the future.”
Green adds other bills that are on his radar include school reorganization incentives, vaccine exemption notifications for families within school districts, and establishing loan repayment programs for certain positions such as rural physicians and teachers. The 91st Iowa General Assembly is January 13th through May 2nd.
