Three of the eight wrestlers the Rams took to the Rollin Dyer Invitational in Atlantic finished in second place. Sophomore Brennan Jacobs (106 lbs.), along with seniors Gavyn Winters (120) and Brent Dennhardt (157) all made the finals. Sophomores Jaron Jacobs (113) and Degan Miller (165) both placed fifth. Seniors Crew Conner (144), Haiden Venteicher (175), and Marcus Ball (215) did not place in the top eight.
Brennan Jacobs was seeded eighth and went 3-1 on the day. Among his victories were a 23-7 technical fall over the top seed, Jaxson Page of Alta-Aurelia, ranked seventh in Class 1A. Jacobs, ranked ninth in 2A, lost in the finals to Blake Eddy of Grand Island, a school in the largest of Nebraska’s four classes.
Winters lost by technical fall in the finals, 18-1, to Cole Welte of OMaha Skutt Catholic. Welte is the top ranked wrestlers in Nebraska’s Class B, the second largest Class in that state. Winters was the sixth seed his 7-5 win in the semifinals over Braxton Hass of Atlantic was a battle of 2024 State Tournament qualifiers.
Dennhardt, seeded third, is ranked ninth in 2A. He lost 4-3 to Nolan Fellers of Bondurant-Farrar, the second ranked individual in 3A. On his way to the finals, Dennhardt won by fall in 1:40 in the semis over Nebraska’s Class B third ranked individual, Nikolas Rotella of Skutt Catholic.
Atlantic won the team title with 191.5 points while the Rams were ninth in the 19 team field with 97 points.
