The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Basketball teams were able to get back in the win column against Boone on Friday.
The girls won 57-19, while the boys were victorious with a final of 77-59. In the girls game, the game started in an interesting way with a starting lineup infraction on Boone that led to two free throws from sophomore Alexis Maxwell to give ADM a 2-0 score without any time coming off the clock. The Tigers seemed charged by that advantage as they led 14-4 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw ADM erupt for 22 points, holding the Toreadors to just nine as they led 36-13 at the halftime break. Maxwell outscored Boone by herself with 16 first half points. The Tigers kept their foot on the gas peddle in the third as they went for 14 more points, with the defense holding Boone to just two to lead 50-15 at the end of three. Much of the bench played in the fourth quarter as ADM went on to win 57-19.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Maxwell, who finished with 21 points, followed by junior Lauren Hagedorn with 13, and it was freshman Ella Subbert, who had 10 points. The Toreadors were led by senior Sydney Adams with eight points, then it was sophomore Macy Chesnut with three. ADM improves to 8-4 (5-2 inside the Raccoon River Conference) while Boone falls to 4-8 overall (0-7 RRC).
The boys game was a back and forth contest with the Tigers and Toreadors trading baskets in the first that ended with a 22-20 Boone lead. ADM would win the second quarter as they took a 36-35 advantage to the halftime locker room. The Tigers would accelerate in the third quarter by outscoring Boone 23-11 to lead 59-46. ADM’s offense continued to flow in the fourth quarter as they won the game 77-59.
The Tigers were charged by junior Hudson Lorensen, who had 29 points, with junior Hudson Shull contributing with 15, and it was senior Cade Fisher with 12 points. The Toreadors got 18 points out of senior Braden Brooks, 12 from senior Wes Van Pelt, and 11 points from junior Jude Baumgardner.
ADM improves to 7-3 overall (5-2 RRC), and Boone drops to 5-5 (2-5 RRC). The next game for the Tigers will be Tuesday night in Carlisle facing the Wildcats.
