A local school in the community of Perry had a special guest from an Iowa sports team stop by on Wednesday.
Crash, who is the mascot of the Iowa Wild Hockey Team, came out to St. Patrick’s Catholic School to spend some time with students. Manager of Game Presentation for the Iowa Wild Emily Garner tells Raccoon Valley Radio that through the organization’s Healthy Living Floor Hockey Program, their mission is to teach kids about the importance of exercising, using the sport of hockey as an example. St. Patrick Catholic School’s Physical Education Teacher Stephen Lewis expresses that he thought it would be a good event, especially after the year Perry had in 2024.
“I think the kids loved it. I think it went really well. I kind of wanted to do it with Perry and all of the things we’ve gone through, some things to cheer the students up and to let them see other things and to experience new opportunities that maybe they haven’t had a chance to do.”
Lewis shares that his goal with bringing Crash to the school is to introduce students to the game of hockey, and hopefully peak their interest in other sports. In addition, Garner gave a message on ways the students can make great leaders.
