Paton-Churdan visited Storm Lake St. Mary’s last night in a non-conference girl/boy basketball doubleheader. A busy week with Tuesday, Thursday, Friday twin bills started with a sweep for the Rockets.

Coach Tom Kennedy’s team picked up win number one in girls’ basketball by a 39-35 final after leading 17-11 at the half. Sophomores Alivya Smith with 19 points and Kaliyah Minnihan with 10 led the Rockets. St. Mary’s was led by Isabelle Lohanns with nine points. The Rockets were 0-8 entering the contest and the Panthers were 0-7. The victory broke a 32 game losing streak dating back to late in the 2022-23 season.

A 66-39 P-C win was their fourth in the last five games for the boys and evens the season record at four wins and four losses. The Panthers are without a win in eight tries. Sophomore Trevon Keely scored a career high 30 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Junior Cayden Stream added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, while sophomore Bryce Stephenson collected 11 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Coach Josh Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio the statistics are unofficial. He added eight of the 10 P-C suited for the game got into the scoring column. “We were up 49-9  at half, but I rested our starters most the second half since we have three games this week,’ said the coach.

West Bend-Mallard visits Churdan on Thursday with Woodbine playing in Churdan on Friday night.
