Greene County Conservation Board Director oversaw some nice improvements to the county parks in 2024 and is looking to do even more this year.
Director Tanner Scheuermann says one of the main projects last year was replacing the last pit latrine at Spring Lake Park, with a concrete vault toilet. Another improvement that Scheuermann points out was the main shower house at Spring Lake Park has been repainted in the interior, with the exterior to be finished ahead of this year’s camping season.
“Everything will be fresh for folks when they go in there. So again, I think people will notice that and really appreciate that we are putting money back into the parks.”
Scheuermann notes other projects that happened in 2024 included removing additional ash trees from paths and other public areas in the different county parks with about 95 percent of those being removed. He is excited to move forward with some proposals for Squirrel Hollow Park. He mentions that in 2023 there was a public input meeting and from there, engineering firm Bolton and Menk were hired to develop a facilities master plan for that park.
Scheuermann says some of the proposals included upgrading the electrical areas that have not been touched since the 1980s, along with all of the plumbing and water services, installing a shower facility and a dump station.
“Not necessarily all of your amenities there, but you’ll have what you need there to be able to go out and camp for a weekend, just like you would at any other modern campground. So we’re really excited about that.”
Scheuermann adds the facilities master plan will be unveiled to the public at another input meeting where they will receive final comments from attendees before the plan is completed and he is hopeful to implement a project later this year.
