The Greene County basketball teams have had their share of challenges to this point of the season and more could lie ahead with a trip to State Center tomorrow night vs. West Marshall. It’s a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
The girls from Greene County have an 0-8 record and have played with few girls to begin the season, and even fewer as the season has progressed. Coach Tori Ogden had just seven girls in uniform during Saturday’s 59-14 makeup game loss in Jefferson to Roland-Story (Story City). The Norsemen are ranked number five in Class 3A, but they lost on Friday to the tenth ranked Trojans that the Rams will face on the road tomorrow night.
Greene County’s boys have also been challenged to score points this season at just 40 per game, but after a 15 point first quarter vs. Saydel (Des Moines) on Friday night in Jefferson, the offense showed improvement. The game was tied 25-25 at the half, but the Eagles put up 43 second half points to just 15 for the Rams. WM has a senior dominant team with seven of their top eight in their last year of high school while the Rams have six juniors among their top eight.
