The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday for its organizational meeting.

The meeting started with the annual appointment of Board Chair and Vice Chair, with John Muir and Dawn Rudolph retaining their respective positions for 2025.

Next, Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn gave a report. He said there are 51 pending criminal cases in the County Attorney’s Office, which is a much lower amount than in previous years. He mentioned that a grand jury will be impaneled on January 21st. Laehn said one of the main functions of a grand jury was to directly indict someone with charges, but in his tenure a grand jury has never been needed, but that it was better to have one than not. Finally, Laehn discussed a property assessment board hearing in February in Des Moines. He said that Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson was challenging the assessed value of the property that was determined by the Greene County Assessor’s Office, through a contracted entity.

Then, County Tax Coordinator Pam Olreich presented the 2025 property valuations. She said that the countrywide valuations had increased by 4.27-percent.

The Board then approved the December 31st cash count as presented, as well as several resolutions pertaining to the new year, including the meeting dates, times and locations that will continue to remain the same as last year for Supervisor meetings; along with the official depositories and newspapers, county commissions and committees, board committee assignments and all salaries for county employees.
