Three Greene County Middle School students were recently announced as winners of an annual contest.

According to the American Legion Post #11 , Lyndsie Goughnour was first place, Samantha Pedersen was second and Mila Sebolt finished third in the Flag Essay Contest. Flag Essay Chair Barb Labate points out that Fifth Grade Social Studies Teacher Kim Braun has carried on this tradition as the fifth graders participate in this competition that is sponsored by the American Legion of Iowa Essay Contest that develops a youth’s mind with knowledge and appreciation for the US Flag, as well as an understanding of flag etiquette and respect. 

Labate states that the essay winner also has the opportunity to recite their submission during the following Memorial Day service at the Jefferson City Cemetery. Goughnour additionally received $30, Pedersen earned $20 and Sebolt won $10.
