With the first snow to stick this winter on the ground, the Guthrie County Secondary Roads Department is ready to make sure travelers stay safe on the road.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says that the department has been working to make sure they are prepared for snowfall and ice since the end of October, by preparing trucks and motor graders to be ready to clear any snow and ice. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio they also have abundant materials for deicing roads.

“We have a stockpile of salt on hand and a salt sand mixture that we’ll use to combat any icing or snowpack.”

Sebern reminds residents that in the case of a snowfall event, the Secondary Roads Department generally operates from 5am to 5pm to work on clearing roads for travel. He also asks that in the case of heavy snowfall at any time, please be careful if driving, and be patient as the crews work to make travel possible.
