A community in Dallas County is continuing to rise in population as a city leader discusses several projects that will best suit the residents.

Adel Mayor Jim Peters tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the city has grown to about 2,000 more residents within the past decade. He notes that the city issued 72 building permits costing close to $27 million in 2024. Peters points out another project that was major pertained to the bridge replacement on North 15th Street, which was estimated around $1 million and was 90 percent funded through the Iowa Department of Transportation. The last project that Peters features was the two miles of trails that were placed throughout the community.

“Trails are a really important amenity for folks that are looking to locate in a town or a city. So we just completed approximately 1.6 miles, so connecting our recreational locations with folks that can get out and walk around town.”

Peters reveals that the City of Adel was recently given a grant of $250,000 for more recreational trail work to be done in 2025, which will connect Evans Park, Island Park, Kinnick-Feller Park, with the Raccoon River Valley Trail. He claims that all three areas of residential housing, bridge replacements, and trail improvements all contribute to matching the quality standards of the ever-quickly growing community of Adel.
