Two people from Perry were killed and two other people were seriously injured in a two vehicle crash near Perry on Monday.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened at 11:48am Monday when a 2022 Volkswagen Taos that was driven by 50-year-old Reid Schaffer of Perry was traveling east on 310th Street, didn’t yield the right of way at the intersection with G Avenue and was struck by a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Colorado that was driven by 39-year-old Javier Hernandez, also of Perry. The collision at the intersection resulted in Javier as well as his passenger, 62-year-old Amelia Huaracha de Hernandez, being pronounced dead at the scene. 

Iowa State Patrol reports that Reid and his passenger, 49-year-old Christine Schaffer were seriously injured. Both Reid and Christine were taken by separate air ambulances to Des Moines area hospitals. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
