The Perry Basketball teams took the floor on Thursday for a non-conference matchup versus Boone.

The Jayettes fell to the Toreadors 58-29, while the boys lost an entertaining 83-78 game in overtime. In the girls game, Boone got going early with sophomore Macy Chestnut who stormed out the gates as they led 22-5. Chestnut finished with 14 first first half points as the Toreadors took a 34-6 advantage into the halftime break. Perry’s offense woke up in the third quarter as they outscored Boone 14-12, but still trailed 46-20 going into the fourth. Each team scored nine points in the final frame as the Toreadors won 58-29.

For Boone, Chesnut led the way with 23 points, followed by sophomore Ava Johnson, who had 11, then it was six points from senior Sydney Adams. Perry was charged by sophomore Lily Myers, who had 12 points, and junior Karagyn Whelchel chipped in with 11. The Toreadors snap a four game losing streak and improve to 4-4, while the Jayettes have now lost six straight and sit at 3-6.

The boys game was full of high energy from the very beginning as Perry leaped out the gates to take a 18-10 lead in the first quarter. Boone closed the game by outscoring the Bluejays 24-18 as they trailed 36-34 at half. Perry opened the game up with an 11-point advantage in the third before, but the Toreadors closed the gap, still behind 58-53 going into the fourth. In that final quarter, Boone won it 18-13, and a late layup from junior Jude Baumgardner tied the game at 71.  The game would go into overtime as big buckets were made from Toreadors senior Braden Brooks, who finished with 32 on the night as Boone came away 83-78 winners.

Besides Brooks’ 32 points, Baumgardner added 13, then it was junior Hendeix Moorman that tallied 12 points. For the Bluejays, junior Gustavo Drahos finished with 26, then it was senior Geren Kenney getting 24 points, and senior Owen Myers with 20. Boone improves to 4-2 on the season, while Perry falls to 5-2 going into winter break.

The Jayettes and Bluejays will have extended time off, then will resume in 2025 on January 3rd, when they host the Nevada Cubs.
