Several students in Dallas County that are in the nursing program at Des Moines Area Community College were honored during a special event.
DMACC’s VanKirk Career Academy in Perry held the Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) Fall Pinning Ceremony on December 11th to award 18 students diplomas for completing the program. Among the 18, Perry’s Jackelin Carrillo and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn’s Gabrielle Austin were given certifications. DMACC Director Eddie Diaz tells Raccoon Valley Radio that with the massive shortages in the healthcare industry, it’s great to see many young individuals helping out in the field.
“We all know the high importance the healthcare industry is to our society, so we take it as part of our mission to help young people take that first step into the healthcare field. These young people will be CNA’s, nurses, respiratory therapists, (and) some of them will become doctors. This is just the first step into what we hope is a long career in the healthcare profession.”
A press release from DMACC’s Academic Advisor Tom Lipovac states that the CNA graduates are now eligible to work at long term care facilities in the state of Iowa and will focus on obtaining their advanced CNA certification to allow them to work inside hospitals. Other schools besides Perry and ADM represented included Dallas Center-Grimes, Woodward Granger, Johnston, and Panorama. A full list of students can be seen below.
