The next production with Greene County Community Theatre is happening this Saturday.

GCCT Board Vice President Josh Tuel says “A Community Theater Christmas” begins at 7pm on Saturday at the Greene County High School auditorium, with a reader’s theater-style rendition of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Tuel tells Raccoon Valley Radio that after the show will be a complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar that is sponsored by Greene Bean Coffee, and singer-songwriter and musician Chad Elliott will be leading caroling, along with a visit by Santa Claus.

Tuel explains that getting Elliott on board with playing his guitar and caroling and involving Greene Bean Coffee adds that community aspect that makes this program more complete.

“If you don’t talk those ideas out and you don’t bring those to somebody’s attention, then you never know what you can accomplish. So it was really nice to get those folks involved and kind of tie it into what we’re doing. We’re kind of hoping to make the community Christmas show an annual event. It would be nice to kind of have a community staple performance event around Christmas that people can look forward to every year.”

According to GCCT that while the performance itself is free, they will accept free will donations with half of the funds going to future shows and the other half being dedicated to a scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating senior who is either planning to pursue a career in the performing arts or who has had an active performing arts career in high school.
