Greene County played varsity basketball in Glidden on Thursday night for the first time in decades. Glidden-Ralston and the Rams met in a non-conference girl/boy doubleheader broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Wildcats won the girls’ game 52-27, and the boys’ contest went to the Rams by a final of 47-43.

Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams staged one of the great comebacks in the boys’ game. Down 14-32 at the half and 14-35 seconds into the third quarter, put 33 points up the rest of the way. The Wildcats scored just eight points in the final 15:45 of playing time and fell to 4-1 on the season while the Rams improved to 2-3 with a second straight victory, both on the road this week. Juniors Broc Stream and Nathan Towers scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, and were the only Rams to reach double figures in points. Greene County went eight of 19 on three-point shots and six of the treys came after halftime. A pair of free throws with 6.1 seconds remaining bt senior Isaac Carman put the Rams up by the final margin and Stream stole the ensuing inbound pass to put a lid on the improbable victory. Senior Jonathan Bergmeier scored 15 points for G-R.

The Rams fell to 0-5 in girls’ basketball. Sophomore Makenna Ebersole had 14 points for the Rams. She fouled out just five seconds into the fourth quarter. G-R had 18 points from Allison Snyder and 17 from Olivia Squibb.

PCM (Monroe) is scheduled for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girls/boy doubleheader in Jefferson tonight on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com, weather permitting.
