Paton-Churdan and Ar-We-Va played a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Westside on Tuesday night. The Rolling Valley Activities Conference contests were the first on the road this season for P-C and the AWV Rockets won both games. AWV won the girls’ game 43-28 and then took the boys’ contest, 71-39.
The P-C girls fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference and were led in scoring by sophomore Kaliyah Minnihan with 13 points, and sophomore Ella Tasler added six points. AWV’s Azara Martinez led her team with 15 points and the win evens their record at 1-1.
Sophomore Trevon Keely had 15 points and 11 rebounds for P-C in the boys’ game. Junior Phoenix Hartman scored eight points to go with three rebounds, and sophomore Bryce Stephenson scored six points and hauled in six rebounds. Coach Josh Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio the score was 11-11 after one quarter, then AWV led 29-18 at intermission. The lead for AWV grew throughout the second half. The coach added AWV was the more physical team, which was disappointing, but he was proud of how the players responded when challenged. The P-C boys fell to 0-3 on the season and in the conference.
