The AC/GC Chargers hosted the Van Meter Bulldogs Tuesday night, and came away with some big wins.

The girls team got off to a slow start, with the team trailing 13-8 after the first quarter. A strong second quarter got the Chargers the lead though, and they went into halftime up 19-15. Things really picked up from there, as AC/GC finished the third quarter leading 33-24, and then finished the game with the 50-42 victory. Three Chargers ended up in foul trouble, finishing the game with four fouls apiece. Junior Camdyn Richter picked up her fourth early in the third and had to sit until the final minute of the quarter, but played smart the rest of the game and was able to stay in.

Richter was named Crafty’s Coffee Player of the Game, putting up 19 points and leading the team in rebounds. Her game on the block was a big help to the Chargers, as it seemed that Van Meter didn’t have a good way to guard the post position.

The boys team also started off a bit slower, making the first basket of the game before the Bulldogs took off. The Chargers were able to fight back though, and ended the first quarter tied 16-16. AC/GC had a big second quarter, outscoring Van Meter 16-7 and going into the halftime break up 32-23. The third quarter went to the Bulldogs though, as they outscored the Chargers 20-15, with AC/GC keeping the overall lead, and heading into the final quarter up 47-43. It was all chargers again in the fourth quarter though, as they finished with the 68-57 victory.

Junior Joe Crawford was named the Crafty’s Coffee Player of the Game, as he laid on the heavy hand for the offensive when things were going slow for the team. A few fast break drives, some nice three pointers, and shooting the teams free throws on a technical foul earned him 20 points on the night. He also had an impressive defensive showing, able to help guard Van Meter’s ball handlers and keep them on their toes.
