A local organization in Jefferson is sponsoring a free event for local veterans.

The Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #9599 is hosting the Annual Veterans Christmas Dinner this Friday at the Jefferson VFW Hall, located on the eastside of the downtown square. VFW Post Commander Jim Martin says the doors will open at 5pm and the meal of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a salad will be served at 6pm. Following the meal, Martin notes that there will be trivia, music and other entertainment for veterans to enjoy.

Martin tells Raccoon Valley Radio over 100 veterans attended last year and he explains that they are continuing this tradition that Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl started when he was first started in the position. He adds that with Bierl retiring at the end of this year, they are also hosting the event in his honor. Martin asks for any home-bound veterans that will not be able to attend to email them an RSVP to vfwpost9599@gmail.com. This event is free to all veterans who want to participate.
