As the holiday season continues to grow closer, the amount of decorations celebrating the season become more numerous as well.

Stuart Firefighter Corey Pline mentions that in most instances, there may be a need for reminders about safety when putting up outdoor decorations. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that because there are limited outdoor power outlets, some people may use extension cords or power strips to plug decorations with lights in, and may possibly use those incorrectly.

“You want to make sure that with your extension cords that you’re not having too many plugged into themselves or plugging too much into them.”

Pline mentions that households are regularly outfitted with electrical outlets and lines that can handle 120 volts, so overloading them can cause short circuits in breaker boxes and electrical fires. He adds that this happens when too many things are plugged into one outlet.
