The Perry Municipal Airport is in the process of updating a tool that will assist pilots in the future.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson shares that the Automated Weather Observing Station is getting a new computer system that is able to show weather patterns in real time. He describes that the weather was being calculated on an older generation computer, but this new upgrade is more modern.
“Really top of the line system for an airport our size. So very few airports kind of have that technology, and going to a really nice monitor that’s always displaying the weather, and a really wonderful system for pilots to be able to call into whether they’re calling from a phone getting to the airport or they’re able to radio into that weather station as well to receive a weather report of what it’s like down on the runway surface.”
Peterson outlines that the city is continuing to add improvements to the airport with the recent remodeling of the runways. He reveals that future plans for the airport include redesigning for the rehabilitation and expansion of the terminals.
