Greene County had its varsity basketball teams on the road last night facing Grand View Christian in Des Moines. The games were played inside the new McWilliams Center on the GVC campus and both contests were broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Thunder rolled to a pair of victories by scores of 70-10 in the girls’ game and 71-29 in the boys’ contest. The Rams are 0-4 in girls’ basketball and 0-2 in the conference while the boys are 0-3, 0-2. The Thunder girls are 2-1, 1-1, and the boys are 2-0, 2-0.

The Rams played the girls’ game without leading scorer and rebounder Makenna Ebersole. Junior Leah McCormick had five points with three from junior Kaycee Pittman and two for sophomore Sara Morlan. The Rams made four of 28 shots from the floor including one of 11 on three pointers and turned the ball over 30 times. GVC had 11 turnovers and made 28 of 68 shots. The Thunder went nine of 27 beyond the arc.

Greene County led 8-4 four minutes into the boys’ game before the Thunder took over and led 17-10 after one quarter and 39-17 at the half. The lead kept growing throughout most of the contest. GVC shot 52% from the floor at 26 of 50 and they went eight of 15 shooting three pointers.  The Rams made 11 of 43 shots for 26% and that included three of 10 behind the three point line. Greene County turned the ball over 23 times to 14 for GVC. The Rams had seven points from Isaac Carman and six each by Nick Madesn and Rafe Michaelsen.

Greene County plays JV/varsity boys’ basketball on Monday, Dec. 9 vs. Panorama in Panora. The varsity game around 7:30 p.m. will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
