Last night the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs hosted their first home double header as the Mustang basketball teams hosted the Des Moines Christian Lions. The Mustangs would split the decision with the Lions, with the Lady Mustangs picking up a 49-27 victory while the boys fell to the Lions 57-49.
The Mustang girls would take the lead and never look back, as sophomore Macy Meyer would have an incredible first half, scoring 10 points in the first half while Tessa Jones would begin to carry the Mustangs in the second half. The Lions would begin to battle back in the second half, but Meyer and the Mustang girls would put out their run and claim a 22 point victory.
The Mustang boys would find themselves ahead of the Lions throughout the entire first half, ahead by 3 to end the first then ahead by 6 going into the halftime break with the score at 28-22. Still a close game, the Lions would begin to lock down on defensive and chip away at the lead, eventually leading by 3 going into the final quarter. Chase Perrin would hit three threes to bring the Mustangs within three, for Kyle Cason to tie the game up with 7 seconds sending it into over time. Cason would end the night at 18 points for the Mustangs, but the Mustangs would fall short in overtime 57-49.
Both Mustang teams make the journey to Ames on Monday to take on the Cyclones. Tip off for the girls is set to begin at 6pm.
