One entity is underway with its month-long fundraiser.

The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library are having the 10th Annual December Book Sale with used books of all genres, along with DVDs and book bags available for purchase in both the youth and adult departments. According to one of the volunteers, Barb Labate, the Friends organization has seen this fundraiser grow in the past ten years, as they started with an average of $180-$200 and are now seeing an average between $250-$325.

Labate tells Raccoon Valley Radio the library patrons always look forward to the informal book sale and that this fundraiser allows community members to buy last minute book gifts without having to leave town. She also notices that with the skyrocketing prices of new books, more and more people are shopping for used books in different places. She encourages anyone who has used books that are in good condition to donate them in the library’s bin in the main entrance and that the fundraiser will have new items almost daily.

Labate adds that the proceeds from the December Book Sale goes back to the Friends organization, which have been used in the past to buy tote bags for children who receive their first library card, along with an annual subscription to Tumblebooks, snacks for each of the school youth programs, and purchasing new books to add to the collections, among other things.
