The high school wrestling season starts next week for the Greene County Rams. Kirk Davis returns as the head coach with Chris Conner back as the assistant coach. Middle school coaches Zach Beekman and Clint Flack help on the high school level as well, and so do some volunteers.
The Rams went 13-9 in dual meets last season, placed second in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament, and had four wrestlers advance to the State Tournament in Des Moines. Gavin Scheuermann placed sixth at 157 lbs. in 2024 and he’s the only one of the State Tourney quartet that graduated. Back are two-time State qualifier Brent Dennhardt, and one-time qualifiers Gavyn Winters and Degan Miller. Dennhardt and Winters are seniors and Miller is a sophomore. Dennhardt placed eighth at the 2023 State Tournament and just missed the podium last season. Miller was 1-2 at State and Winters went 0-2.
A number of other Rams with one or more seasons of varsity experience return as well. There are seven seniors on the team, but no juniors.
