A project that started earlier this year at one of the parks in Greene County has been completed.
Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann says the new vault restroom at Spring Lake Park is installed and ready for next camping season.
“Over probably the last decade, we’ve been replacing a lot of the old pit toilets around the county. We just replaced one last year at Seven Hills (Park), I know three or four over the past decade out at Spring Lake Park. We did get a grant from the Greene County Community Foundation this year for $35,000 to help replace the final pit latrine at Spring Lake over by the eastside shelter.”
Scheuermann notes that along with the $35,000 grant was another $24,791 donation by the Greene County Conservation Board from the estate of Jerry Kelley that was given in 2022 for a total project cost of just under $60,000. He points out all of the pit latrines that were replaced were over 50 years old. Scheuermann thanks the Greene County Secondary Roads Department for the preparation and installation of the new facility that was manufactured by CXT Incorporated with a Tioga Special Double Vault model.
