Last night the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustang girls basketball team hosted the #2 North Polk Comets and battled hard, but unfortunately lost to the Comets 69-48. The Mustangs looked at an uphill battle, as the Comets had a mass majority of their team returning from last season.
The Comets took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back, with their defense holding the Mustangs to only 2 points as Boens would be the only Mustang to score in the first. With the score at 14-2, the Mustangs would begin to battle back, with crucial three pointers from Brauch and Meyer to help the Mustangs chip away at the advantage.
With the score at 36-15 at haltime, the Mustangs would begin to find their rhythm in the second half, scoring 15 points in the third, with Jones, Bruach and Meyer leading the charge for the Mustangs. The Mustangs would have their best quarter in the final six minutes, scoring 18 points while holding the Comets to 12, but the damage would already be done as the Comets picked up a 69-48 victory.
The now 1-1 Mustangs have the rest of the week off of competitive action but come back ready for battle on Tuesday as the Mustangs travel to ADM High School to take on the Tigers.
